What is he interested in? A gift certificate to a shop that sells items for his favorite hobbie would be a much appreciated gift.
Funny: A boob cake, funny articles from a sex shop. A toy Rolls Royce or other car he really wants.
If you don't have much money: certificates for uninterupted hours observing or playing the sport of his choice. Make a cerificate for several of these. You could also make up certificates for "other" activities, also.

as a gag you could start with a present of grecian hair formula and denture creme then give him the real gift, which might be a watch or satellite radio if he doesn't have one. just a little idea that we did for a friend of ours. good luck :)
