In an ultrasound today the doctor said it looked like my left kidney was actually two kidneys. He said it was not an issue but i am still curious about it. Does anyone know about this? I did a google search but did not get good results. If anyone knows about this, how it happens, if it could be a problem in the future, let me know

It's basically an anatomic variant, it's completely benign as far as I know, I have never heard of any problems associated with it. Just some people, due to some small irregularity during embryogenesis, end up with two kidneys rather than one (almost always only on one side) - had you not gotten imaging there, you would probably have gone your whole life without ever knowing anything about it or having any problems with it.

I have this too, it isn't common but there a lot of us out there, my husband's grandfather also had three kidneys. I do process water quicker than most people but otherwise harmless. Enjoy being unique!!!!
