They have become very common on the news for all the lives taken from drinking and driving by illegal aliens. This seems to be increasing every day. Why are the illegal aliens drinking and smoking so much and how can they afford beer and cigs but not food or hospital bills ???

If you use the "news" as your basis for your remarks, you are wrong. I've taught the first offense DUI course in California, and there were more white folks in the class than 'illegal aliens', I assume you mean Mexicans. Many California hospitals are open to everyone and repayment can be arranged for according to the ability to pay. Insured or not. Until strict prohibitions against smoking and drinking are enforced all people with addictions will continue to indulge.

What you have to realize is that the media sensationalizes things. It's very ignorant and downright idiotic to put such a horrible label on such a wide range of people. What bad things do happen are magnified in order to stir public reaction, causing tension and better ratings for the media. It's rather rude to stereotype all aliens in this way. Not only that, but you're not giving those aliens who want a chance to better themselves any credit for staying out of trouble. You also have to bear in mind how many violent incidents happen that concern normal american citizens. However, they don't get as much attention. I don't know why, but it's very unfair. All in all, it's a sterotype that yes, unfortunately does happen, but it is overcovered and blown up by the media. Don't be fooled.

It's part of the Mexican culture to drink beer, haven't you noticed all the different Mexican beer brands? And the last time I checked, beer and cigarettes were much cheaper than hospital bills.
Not that I'm justifying, just answering your question. I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs for the book.

They are away from family and friends and it kills the loneliness. The ones i work with have at least two jobs. They are not on welfare. Because they are illegal they cannot purchase insurance, they do pay taxes and never get a refund most of them pay for the lazy Americans who have to many kids and, think they do not have to work.

Maybe the drinking and tobacco use that goes on in this demographic is more "out there." I can think of many of my friends - doctors, lawyers, business people, stay at home moms - whom I am certain have problems with drugs and alcohol keep (they think) their problems as private as possible.
I think that certain groups are more inclined to let their issues all "hang out" where as other groups keep their vices private.

by drinking, for most of them its a way of life and it takes their problems away for the moment. Its very selfish to put another human being in danger because of our own problems but theyre not thinking of that when alls on their mind is "are the immigration gonna deport me tonight"
