Well I can tell you that I am a troop, I do not disagree with the war. The war was necessary on many fronts. There are many who can place blame or focus the war on one thing or reason.
Civilians will never know what the war was truly about. The news media like CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS etc will never show the general public the good that has come out of this conflict. The news media can take a poll of the soldiers that are in the area, yes you are going to find some that are there and most will tell you that they do not want to be there. When I go, I don't want to be there, but I must go not because my government tells me that I must, I go whole heartedly knowing that I have a job to do. I protect freedom on all fonts. If we as Americans do not promote freedom around the globe and constantly combat terrorism we will see it here in the United States again. The world is forever changing. We cant compare the current conflict to past conflicts because you can not fight the future with the past, but face the present, adapt to the current situation and overcome the obstacles we face daily. Iraq will recover and move on, but this will take time. This is a country who was torn apart by criminals, lead by an evil dictator, and is going thru a re-birth much like ours when we won the revolutionary war. With out our help and that of our allies, Iraq would have turned into one of the largest breeding grounds for terrorism this world has ever seen. Now I can agree that there are some things that could have been handled a little better than they were, but what government is entirely perfect? You have to ask yourself honestly, could I have done a better job? The answer that we would all have to admit to is probably not. If you say that you could have, then you need to run for office an prove it. There has been no president that the total majority of the American people actually stood by in his decisions. We elect these Americans to make the decisions that we could not make if we were faced with the decision. Give them a break. As for me, I do what I am told to do, because I am a defender of freedom,,,everywhere. Americans should embrace its military, regardless of what you think of the government and its decisions. Those decisions are for the good of all peoples who seek freedom and democracy. God Bless America, God Bless the World.

The troops opinion is pretty much censored by the media here. Every single interview done by people not affiliated with the alphabet networks since the war began shows high approval ratings for Bush, because most of those interviews were done by political nationalists (generally conservatives).
Interviews (rarely) done by mainstream reporters are slanted the other way (globalist, generally liberal)
Neither presents an accurate picture. Since the military isn't given a system of simply voting their opinion about the war, they are just fighting it, we won't really know until after the war is over how they felt about it as a group.

We won the war. Right now we are in the process of helping Iraq in the rebuilding process. I think they aren't so much disapproving being there and what they are doing, as much as it is that they plan they are using doesn't appear to be working and needs to be modified.
Also like your Avatar. I've chatted with Katherine a few times along time ago on another art board.

I remember like it was yesterday, everyone in the U.S. shaking their heads because George the first, with a perfect chance to lock up Saddam & throw away the key, instead just pulled out. For 10 years after that, 20/20, Nightline and all the news magazines aired ruthless stories about the Iraqi's plight...how they believed they'd been told they'd be protected. I guess W's trying to fix it even if it makes him unpopular.
More importantly, the Western-most edge of Iraq is like forty miles from Jeruselam, bad juxtaposition. We really don't want to leave that powder keg dry.

Regardless of which media source you choose to listen to, please understand that every single one of them has an agenda and that is to cater to their targetted viewing audience and give them the "news" they want to hear. It's how they make money, and THAT is their bottom line. Some people listen to Rush Limbaugh and take his as gospel. Others listen to CNN. Get the picture? Personally, I believe in listening to as many different sources as I have time for, knowing that none of them are going to give me 100% of the truth. I try and get as many perspectives as possible and then make my own conclusion. CNN is one of the more liberal sources. Also understand that you may also get a different view dependent upon who you ask. If you were to ask an enlisted Guardsman who's been in country for say, the last seven months and this is now their second or third tour, you could well expect to get a negative response. All I can offer is that you check your sources and check their sources. None of my old friends are complaining.

Probably the opposite of why so many do support the Bush administration. You have to be careful of news organizations, most are left leaning except fox who is right leaning.I have yet to find a true bi partisan non biased news organization. Truth is that some support and some don't, and its just like all people feel with their bosses, they don't always agree with what they are told to do. Do you? I know I sure don't.

The military times poll gave Bush, the commander in chief, a low approval rating, which is unusual during a time of war, largely because Iraq is grave.

Like TexasRose said, it's an unwinable war. The people of the Middle East have fought their whole lives against eachother for thousands of years. Do you think they will stop even with United States and other countrys will stop them? It should be their own war.

Bush set expectations too high. He made it seem like we'd be out in a matter of months. Basically, he miscalculated.
As a result, our troops are overextended and deserve a break.
