if you really want low calorie, i'd go for just plain vinegar. Like red wine vinegar or balsamic. it has no fat and is very flavorful. If you go for low fat dressings, you'll be adding lots of calories because there is lots of sugar in those low fat varieties.

if at all curious, check out the labels. good luck.

If you want to add taste and an acidic twist, fresh lemon juice is the best solution. If you want a more sophisticated touch, balsamic vinegar is good because it is both sweet and tart and altogether very tasty. Try adding fresh herbs like parsley (my favorite), basil (great with tomatoes), tarragon (with carrots or slaw you can't get wrong), and so on. Some vegetables like scallions, garlic or red onions add lots of flavour too.
If you miss the creamy texture of salad dressing, you can mix your lemon juice or balsamic vinegar with french dijon mustard or low fat cottage cheese or both.
And don't forget the spices : wasabi (with or without soy sauce), curry (especially with low fat yogourt), hot pepper, etc.
With a bit of practice, it's easy to have the taste (and the variety) without the calories. Enjoy!

Go for that spritzer stuff. There's like 1 calorie in each spray.

I like fresh salsa. Seasoned rice vinegar, too -- not as sharp as regular vinegar.
