she's one years old.. and her "brother" is a German Sheperd Mix. Whom has taught her what barking is. I work at PetsHotel and all the Huskies I've come across howl like a Siberian Husky is suppose to. Where as, she barks like a regular dog. Does anyone know if there is any to get her to know how her breed is suppose to bark, will having her spend more time with only other huskies fix her?
Also, my boyfriend and I were discussing about his pitbull... a rat got into his tub of food.. and he's wondering if it's horrible for its health?
THANK YOU.

Siberian huskies may howl, but they also bark like regular dogs. Sib's do not talk the way Malamutes do; thus their communication is more along the lines of a normal dog. It does not really matter if she barks more than she howls; what matters is that she fits with her pack mate.

As for the rat in the tub of food, I would be concerned that the rat could have defecated or urinated on the food. You can still feed it, but I would recommend running a stool sample to your vets in a couple weeks just to test to ensure he did not pick-up any intestinal parasites from the rat.

My wife and I have 2 Siberian Huskies, both females. One is 4 years old and howls and "talks" all the time; she rarely barks. The other one is 2 years old and barks but rarely howls on her own. If we start howling, she will often join in by howling, but otherwise, she just barks. We don't know if it has something to do with their age, or if it is just a difference in their personalities. We don't worry about it much, we just love each dog for the way they are.

well normally Siberian huskies rarely bark
but in some cases they do both
but maybe you can use her barking to an advantage like if there is an intruder or something huskies don't really make good guard dogs but they also said they don't bark so you never know
maybe obedience classes might help
I'm supposed to be getting a female husky soon an 8 week old puppy:)

well i have a 4 year old male sibe and he barks and howls...and he was raised by cats...lol. he barks when he wants something (food, outside) but when he greets you he howls. so barking isnt odd, but if she doesnt howl at all, maybe hanging out with other huskies will get her to howl.

as far as the rat thing, i would dump out the food and get new, just for sanitary reasons, but dogs eat garbage and poop and stuff so he should be ok.

i think it's a logical solution for her to "hang" around other huskys. and as for your pit bull i think you should change his/her food tub.( in case of the rat having a disease)
