You have no sense of history if you think that's possible.
Some examples I've seen of true attrocities that I've seen on other production cars that Ford would have to top to become the worst production car ever:
A Triumph Spitfire has no fuse or circuit breaker to protect its headlight circuit from short circuits. And the headlight wires rub on metal edges every time you open the hood, which can make it way too easy to get an electrical fire.
The Trabant had a body made of cardboard with a plastic coating on it.
One 1950's era microcar had rear wheel steering, like a forklift. You lose almost all steering control on such a car if you hit the brakes hard.
Many early 20th century "production" cars had bodywork built by banging on sheet metal with hammers 'till it more or less looked right. Literally.
In over a century of automotive production, there have been some truly impressive horrors. A modern designer would be very hard pressed to top those.

There is no way anyone can convince me that cars from G.M. or Ford are better than Honda, Toyota or even BMW and Nissan.
G.M. and Ford are notorious for producing cheap, unreliable cars with cheap plastic parts. They're all style and no substance, the same way they were making cars in 1956. Sad fact is, their cars from the 50's were probably better than the crap Ford and G.M. churn out today. They make cars that aren't even ready for market before they are dumped onto the American people. They use the public as guinea pigs to find out what's wrong with them. Then they might fix them, they might not. (e.g. Cadillac Catera, 1st generation Ford Explorer SUV, 1st generation Ford Focus)
The problem is most people buy vehicles with their genitals and not with the analytical and rational parts of their brains. That's how Ford and G.M. are able to survive while they hawk their dispicable and cheaply built vehicle wares on the U.S.A. and Canadian public.
By the way, I once had a job as a courier and the dam Ford Escort kept stalling. It would stall in intersections (a scary event).
So take my word for it. If you want a reliable vehicle, buy a Toyota. I have a Toyota Corolla, it's reliability is incredible, and it gets 40mph,. no joke. And no, it's not a hybrid. If you have to have an SUV, buy a Toyota 4Runner (My friend has one, I drive it all the time, we love it. It's smooth and reliable. Doesn't even feel like a truck) Builders, Contractors, Electricians, Need a durable truck to haul your stuff? buy a Toyota Tundra. Need a family sedan? Buy a Toyota Camry. I don't recommend Toyota Avalons--- They've had some slight problems, but knowing Toyota they'll correct that problem soon.
Some say that things have changed. How? After renting a 2006 Pontiac G6, I had time to evaluate and realized that very little has changed. Even if things have changed which I highly doubt if they have, it's taken these companies far too long to emulate the formidable competition from Asian and European origin automakers.
In addition they are not innovative. It was Asian automakers that came up with hybrid vehicles. G.M. wants to try and pass its Flex-Fuel vehicle technology off as a great tech achievement. LOL! Are they serious?. G.M. and Ford are such dumb asses in the U.S.A., it's mind boggling

wow, sorry to break it to ya, they have been for quite some time F.O.R.D. Found On Road Dead or Fix Or Repair Daily u pick, not that chevy hasn't been in the dump lately. They both better get the lead out and start commin up with some more exiting designs for thier passenger cars. i mean look at the newer impala, someone was asleep at the design table and the God awfull tauras, can u say i drive a bubble car, but thats my opinion. the only thing they r both focusing on is the whole retro sport car come back. they better bring some of that design team to the family market and sell some cars. we already know that the import scene is on fire and steadily growing. u hear more about drifting and import car shows than the NHRA.

Lately, all 3 American companies are not doing that great. Ford has had major problems with transmissions and head gaskets.GM has had problems with wiring, and head gaskets.Chrysler has also had head gasket problems. Most of the head gasket problems have occured between 70-90k miles on the vehicles. And now the big 3 are little by little taking away small things (like trans. dipsticks) so that we are forced to go to a dealership to get it checked out. I will also say that ever since Audi bought out VW--the quality has gone way down compared to years ago. My next car, I will be looking at Toyota, Honda, or even Hyundai with its 10yr/100k warranty.

Imports are not crap because they are the ones taking all the customers away from ford, chevy and dodge. They know what the consumer wants. Plus, ford has sucked since I have known ford existed. Had a taurus and damn it hurt my pockets badly. Everyone that i've known that has a ford has had problems with it.

The thing about Fords is you have to take care of them. You can't wait around with them or the problems will get worse.
