It is really called the humerus bone, so the funny bone is like a nickname. Humerus is from the Latin word for the bone between the arm between the shoulder and the elbow, being the the humerus is really right above the elbow.
Funny bone might also mean weird, rather than laughable. this is because it is an odd sensation when you hit your "funny bone"

The funny bone is the humerus, the large arm bone that lies between the
shoulder and elbow. At the back of the elbow, the ulnar nerve rests,
fairly exposed, against a prominence or projection of the humerus.
When this area is bumped it produces a tingling sensation. Some people
feel this as a tickling sensation so this area was given the name funny
bone. The term funny bone is also used to refer to one's sense of humor
as in the term, "That joke really tickled my funny bone!"

It's a play on words--the bone in your upper arm is called the humerous (humorous). When you bump your elbow, the tingle feels funny (well, sometimes).

I wondered about that too . . . then I realized that the upper bone in the arm that comes down to the elbow is called the Humerus, (humerous) - I would assume that it is in reference to that in an un"funny" pun.

because it is a point on the elbow where the ulnar nerve passes near the surface; a sharp tingling sensation results when the nerve is knocked against the bone; the funny bone is not humorus
its just when you hit your elbow by accident you get a tingle sensation, like a tickle thats why people laugh and its called a "Funny Bone"
