Should I ask for per hour or per day rates? And my area is Chicago, I am a student, not an adult.

I would say that a home daycare center would likely charge $150 per week per child. Since you are a child, how about $75 per week? That's a little more than $10 per day though... Maybe $15 or $20 per day?

Peace!

Later:
So $5 per hour times 8 hours (full time - 40 hrs per week) a day = $40 per day or $200 per week. Is it worth it to your customers to pay a student babysitter more than the local daycare? Maybe call a local daycare and ask them what they charge and go from there. Maybe your customer can't get a spot and would pay a bit more - or maybe the customer is looking for a less expensive alternative. Only you can decide what you are comfortable asking.

here's where you can make that choice per day you can charge even if the parents choose not to have their child attend every day say you have a contract for 5 days and with out advanced knowledge of the child being absent one day is missed you can still have the parent pay for that one day, per hour you get what you work. But have a contact either way. as far as how much you should ask for in pay this all depends on what is required of you, are you required to make meals and if so how many of them. will the parents supply extra money to do things with the child like bus fair to get to the park or movies. when i was a teenager i charged 1.25 an hour but that was years ago the rate has gone up.

First of all, consider the child in question. If you believe that this child is a handful, then don't be afraid to make your wages reflect this. Ask a price per hour that is a little higher than you would expect. Maybe 5-6 dollars an hour.

first depending what time are you going to be there. are you going to serve breakfast, clean up a kitchen, play with the child... is the child potty trained,... will you be doing the child's laundry... will you be making lunch and dinner. ... what time will you be going home. if all the above is part of your job then 15 bucks an hour if not then 8 an hour is good as long as you do play, interact with the child and go over what the child learn in the previous year... , read to the child....
