I recently saw that Jim Baker is back in business again. His website includes all sorts of crap you can buy. He has a lovely new wife replacing Tammy Faye. How can otherwise intelligent people send money to these televangelists? They are nothing but con men and scammers, yet, they get millions, and millions every year. I don't get it.

my life was destroyed by my parents believing TBN and the scheemer that helped catch Jimmy Baker, Paul and Jan Crouch

they too were "outed" in 2004 with homosexuality etc

it's about what people want to be true, not what is

but the trick is, they ask for what exists now (money)
in exchange for worthless promises of what is not (future life)

what a scam

Very good question. Well, they are often people in need of hope, and are often sad or desperate, and looking for help or answers. Televangelists, can offer hope, and "power" to people, by offering to pray for them, to cure whatever is ailing them. They sometimes say their prayer will get the extra attention, if they connect a donation to it, etc. Saddest thing I ever saw. In my church, we do that for free, out of the love of our hearts. Sometimes, I think televangelists started out with good motives, then they just got crooked, when they saw the money rolling in. They are masterful at taking advantage of pepole needing something, even if its just encouragement. So sad.....

He plays on people's ignorance and fear, with a side of guilt. His future job of paying the last farthing will keep him busy for some time I suspect.
