Depends on his age and where you are located (rural or near a city) because you could purchase some good tickets to a sports event he really loves; take him to dinner or pack a tailgate picnic and surprise him...

Talk to him and make mental notes of anything he says he would like or wishes he had, then pick something. A hat with a team emblem is nice for some, maybe a shirt... ther's always cologne. :)

Well you have to figure out what he likes the most. If he's into sports the best thing to do is figure out his favorite sport and favorite team and buy him tickets for the game. :-)

give him something uniqe,have a reservation for two in a restaurant,while eating someone's gonna give him card and flowers that is from you also i think he will surely suprise and like it.
