Sometimes it can....I met my boyfriend online but he's cheated on me maybe 10 times who knows...so all I can say is be careful for online man whores...ask a lot of questions talk on the phone first...You can't tell everything by the sound of a persons voice b ut listening to their reactions to certain questions can give you an idea of what their about...Also, be specific when you ask questions don't let them talk in circles...I've learned the hard way that men that talk in circles are only better liars...

On-line dating is a good way for shy people to meet or for people who have been out of the dating pool for awhile. Just remember that on-line dating does not mean you actually date in cyberspace. If the two of you never meet it is not a relationship. You also have to be careful of scammers. One way to know that they are a scammer is that they claim to "love you" after a short talk. I've had plenty try that mess with me.
On-line dating does not mean you are desperate. Don't take anyone at face value. Get to know them and never let them know where you live and never give money.

Why not you got 2 person communicating just through a different medium like phone or video conference well this one is through a computer.
Although there are lots of disadvantage when dealing with online dating, the person on the other side may be pretending to be another person. You might not know who you going to meet so when meeting with him/her you must be cautious. Prevention measures include setting up your first date somewhere crowded and insist that you get to know him better through talking face to face for he first date.
But on the other side of the coin, there are a lot of advantages like you can find lots of people everywhere and anywhere in the world. You might even find your soul mate there.
Good luck in online dating

It worked for me; I didn't find it hard at all!! It's actually fun meeting new people, and I've now been dating my boyfriend for about 15 months, and things are great! We got to know each other on the phone before we even met, so that was a great ice breaker -- we felt like we already knew each other when we met.
It's worth a shot.. what have you got to lose??

Pat and I met online in a yahoo chat room almost 2 years ago. He ‘IM’ me in a chat room and we got on like a house on fire, not romantically but on a really awesome friendship level (I did have an emotional crush on him but thought nothing would happen as he lived 2 states away). A year passed and Pat finally admitted his feelings for me, as did I. We spent months talking on the phone (massive phone bills, some as to which im still paying off lol). We finally decided it was time to meet, Pat was going through hard times emotionally and financially at the time but scraped what he could to get down to see me (I was financially struggling too so I couldnt help him out). We met and it was so awkward but lovely at the same time too, we knew we were inlove with each other. Pat spent a few very memorable days with me and went back for a month in which he said bye to his family, friends and work to come move 2 states to be with me. We been together for almost 6 months now, we have been through some really hard times since he moved to be with me but we stuck together like glue, no regrets just pure love. I love you Patrick, you are forever and a day lovely, gorgeous, handsome and my soul mate!

Worked out Great for me...met a local lady I otherwise never would have known existed. The Internet allows for people to meet when their schedules conflict, or if they just happen to run in different circles of friends. Every one you meet out on the net is still someones neighbor...they are all just people.
Just keep in ind that there are people out there that you would not want to live next to, and you will be OK.

It worked for me!
Mind you it took me three years meeting hundreds of women online and visiting 28 of them in person, traveling to twelve states and four countries to find her.
So here's some advice: If you are under 21, don't do it. You don't have enough life experience to smell out the jerks that hang out online. Plus you still have lots of opportunities to meet people all around you.
Also, you need some time to figure out what you really want before you decide to actively look for it. That comes with time and maturity.
Then use one of the matchmaking services. Don't just hang out in chatrooms. Spend a lot of time talking online and exchanging photos and then phone conversations before you even CONSIDER meeting them in the flesh. And if you feel the least bit unsure about the person, DON'T meet them.
Good Luck to you. I hope you find what you are looking for!

If you mean knowing someone only online, but calling yourselves dating...no. That term is a misnomer in that context and no relationship can be built if you haven't met the person face-to-face.
If you mean meeting online, then moving to dating in real life...yeah, it can. I know of many success stories, some ending in marriage.

Sure, it can but it doesn't work for everyone and it's a lot of hard work. But I know several people that have had successful relationships or even gotten married to someone they met online
