You should trust your insticts. You stated that you already have a dog and you know the responsibility, patience, and time that comes with having a dog. You should look @ your lifestyle now and your future and evaluate the situation: For the next 12-15 even 20 years of my puppy's life, will I be able to take care of him/her provide for her, have the patience, responsbility, emotional attatchment that comes with a dog?
Yes puppies are really cute, but they're twice as much work as an older dog. When I adopted my puppy I loved the idea of having a puppy, they're cute, they're cuddling, and great. Two months later I do a recheck and I look @ her and I look @ me and realize that we're a perfect for each other and I am willing to spend time, money, patience, etc. that comes with having a puppy as well as have her apart of my life. We make each other happy. Good Luck.

Make sure you are ready for the responsbility!
Dogs can live for up to 18 years or more, and in that time expect to pay hundreds and hundreds, on Food, Vet bills (vaccinations, desexing, microchipping as well as any accidents that may happen)
Are you willing to train you dog, Exercise your dog for at least an hour a day? Give it the attention it deserves? Make sure it's wormed and has flea treatments? Are you ready to put up with a puppy as in it first years the can ruin your furniture, pee on your carpet, and chew everything in sight.
Do you have a big enough Backyard? Is it fully fenced?
Have you though about breeds and the one that right for you? If you live in the city, don't get a collie or a hearding dog or any large dog.
If you are ready for this, by all means get a dog. But please, please, don't get a dog if you know you aren't ready, there are so many dogs put down each year because people didn't think that little puppy in the window will grow into a huge dog.

If u are not ready for a new puppy then don't get one... that why there are lots and lots of dogs in the shelters and put to sleep so the best way is to work at a place were u can have fun with puppies with out the gult of the dog getting older.

Think it over very carefully. Will your other dog get jealous, will the puppy intimidate your dog? I have an 11yr old dog and one that is 14 months. The young one is too rough for the older one, we keep them seperated , then allow them to be together for awhile. I can get nerve wracking.

You probably shouldnt get one then. You kind of answered your question, by saying you would like having it around for a couple of weeks. Dogs are a lifetime respondsibility.
