Depends on where you live.
There are several websites that, for a fee, offer criminal records checks.
As for Florida, where I am, one can contact the Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement and obtain a criminal history check on someone.
Federally, the NCIC system and the FBI house all criminal records from everyone in the country.

Yes, go to any on line white pages and type in the name, city and state. After running the name it will immediately ask if you want a back ground check. They run between $25 to $60 depending on the extent of the check.
