Specifically, which major carrier (Geico, State Farm, American Family, etc.) do you feel has the best rates for quality coverage and good customer service. This would be for two autos and new home coverage. I live in the Midwest, so answers from those in this part of the US are preferred. Any supporting info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Farm Bureau or State Farm.

Whatever you do, stay away from Nationwide!!! We have a customer right now (I work for Farm Bureau) who has been in 3 accidents in the last 2 years, all with Nationwide customers, all were the Nationwide party's fault. They paid the first claim and flat out denied the last two. And contrary to common belief, Geico isn't all it's cracked up to be either.

I haven't dealt with American Family... But I do know major brands like State Farm, All State, Geico, and Farm Bureau (Progressive is a good auto insurer too) are really good about getting settlements done for you in a minimum amount of time. I'm not in the midwest, but in the best place for judging insurance.... Katrina Land (Louisiana) and have been in the automotive business for years... But those have been good for both home and auto.. you may have to argue a little about the settlement but for the most part (as for Katrina, there was a fine line where it was water damage, and what was wind damage... with some of the majors dragging their feet when it came to that fine point).. BUT they are worth the little extra I have to pay for service (even though they are raising rates and cutting coverage south of I-20 in the gulf south states basically)

State farm. We have eight cars and one home insured by them. We have had to make only a few claims but they were great about it. When my fathers truck burned down our agent was there before the fire department left. A couple of years ago we had an ice storm and it caused much damage to our fence, house, and garage. They sent out an adjuster right away and handed us a 12,000 dollar check on the spot. We also get good prices... Hope this helps!

I live in the Chicagoland area. I have been with AAA for a year now, and have been super happy with them. In order to qualify for the better rates, you should be a member of the auto club. My credit is bad, but they still took me, and my rate for a car, and renters insurance, is cheaper than American Family with just a car. My agent is RothInsurance.com. Call them, if you're in Illinois, or nearby, and they will give you great service. E-mail them, and they will get back to you within a day.

Stay away form the big three, Allstate, State Farm and Farmers. Hartford is good, Safeco has the best rates in the nation.

State Farm. I have them. They gave me the best quote and was really nice. Our vehicle insurance got canceled because the insurance company we were with stopped carrying insurance in our state and didn't notify us so we were without insurance and I called State Farm and they didn't want us driving to their office without insurance so the agent drove out to our house and brought all the paperwork needed. I thought that was really great of them!

State Farm. If you have a relatively good driving record & no homeowner's claims, State Farm can give you a very good rate.
