The ability of it to show up on ultrasound depensds on a few things: the quality of the veterinarian performing (generally I recommend finding specialist), how far along she is, and where the puppies are.

If she's around 3 weeks of age, you should start to see noticeable signs in the ultrasound. Moreover, the major means of identifying puppies via ultrasound is by searching for heartbeats. She could be carrying the puppies more up in her rib cage, so it could be beneficial to re-ultrasound in a week and check that spot.

In addition or instead of this they have pregnancy tests for dogs. These are accurate, particularly that far along. The only problem is unless your veterinarian deals with a lot of breeders, he/she may not have them or want to order them (i believe, but could be wrong, that they come in batches and cannot be individually purchased). Doing this may in fact be less stressfull on the female.

Also keep in mind that she would start to show in another week. Signs like swelling nipples and acting different than normal can be a sign of pregnancy, but can also be a sign of false pregnancy. I've known bitches who even produced milk during a false pregnancy.

I know that's not that helpful, but unless you have another ultrasound or do a pregnancy test, the rest is not an exact science. It's a matter of experience and knowing your dogs.

It's still possible. Dogs can easily hide pups underneath their ribs, and the ultrasound would not be able to see them. Check swelling of the nipples in another week and watch to see if she loses her waist. If so, I would say take her in again in another two weeks and have them do another. Otherwise there is no real need to have an ultrasound, the gestation for a females pregnancy is only 63 days so you won't have to wait long before you know for sure! Good luck

It is possible. If you think there is reason to doubt the results, wait another week and have it done again. The bit ch might not be as far along as you think. She may have actually concieved 5 days after the last breeding. Sperm can live that long in the bit ch. Or, treat her as pregnant, and see what happens, and have an x-ray done when the time comes.

It is possible, especially if she is not as far along as you think (as torbaynewfs said) or if the litter is very small. I would wait until she is 50 days along and have her x-rayed. Even though x-rays are not always accurate on the number of puppies, they will give you a positive yes or no if she is pregnant.
