Not medically hereditary - but surely "nurture" like. If a child sees their parent getting "sick" from everything, it is likely the child will begin to display similiar behaviour. I work with a hypo and she says that her children and husband also suffer from everything in the book, just like she does.

I highly doubt it is genetically hereditary, but you are fomed by your childhood. Let's say your Mom spent her life worrying about every ache and pain, read every single medical book or magazine artical she could find , saw her doctor when there was nothing much wrong and you were exposed to this behavior,on a daily basis for years and years. I could easily see that you would become conditioned to think about your health obsessively and become like your own mom. How could you help it? She taught you that is normal! Now, as an adult you can distance yourself from this behavior, go to counseling and having emotionally healthy people around you. With time you can recondition your thinking. You can be a healthy person inside & out! Good luck and take care!

No, it's learned. But a tendency toward hypochondria can be hereditary.

It is not something that is genetic, but if you are raised by a hypochondriac I am sure the quality would transfer to you

I would think it possible as most mental disorders can be. Though it is far more likely that you picked it up by witnessing the act.
