In the Navy you can get signed off on the DEP Book before BT and you'll be an E-2 going in. They also have it where if you have 2-4 friends enlist under your name you'll obtain rank E-2 to E-3 goin into BT.

Does the Coast Guard have these or anything similar to them?

(United States)

I can't say just how it is today. I joined the Navy 40 years ago. One thing I do know, the U. S. Coast Guard is still defending this countries shores today, just as it did when founded. If you really want to know more, contact the Coast Guard.

They have about the same thing. You can also enlist for 6 years and go in as an E-3. Collage credits can help you too. I think one guy went in as an E-3 because of that.

The Coast Guard is not part of the DoT, it's part of the Department of Homeland Security.
