You said you quit drinking for the entire year of 2006... are you a recovering alcoholic? If so, withdrawal (and stress in general) can cause your blood pressure to elevate.
The top number (systolic) is slightly high, but the bottom number (diastolic) is what really concerns me.
get your self a blood pressure monitoring machine (they have them at any drug store, for around $20). Start monitoring your blood pressure at least once a day. That one pressure alone is not very significant, but if it becomes a norm, then your MD needs to know. In that case, He/she may recommend diet, exercise or meds to get the blood pressure within normal limits.
Again, one pressure reading is not diagnostic. Several over a period of time is a better indicator of a problem. Do not ignore it... elevated pressure over time causes damage to the blood vessels and can lead to very real and serious health complications. Proactive steps to care for you and your health now will make a huge difference later.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

that is a little high, however no need to be overly concerned until it hits about 140. Of course the big determining factor is your normal bp. Some people are naturally higher than others. Cut salt out of your diet, alcohol doesn't have everything to do with that one. Another thing ot consider, a friend of mine gets what is called white coat syndrome at times, where for some reason his bp goes high whenever he goes to docs. Doc chats for a while and tries the bp again and it is right down to normal.

Those kind of numbers just mean you need to get it checked once or twice a week and watch it. If it stays high like that your doc will probably want to treat it. Get your blood pressure checked a couple of times a week for a while and update your doc if your numbers stay high.

It's a little high. Get it checked again in a week or a month and see whether it has gone down. If it hasn't, you may need to do something about it. You have a problem if it stays elevated. But it may have been elevated due to the drinking episode; if it goes back down, you are okay.

your bottom number is a little high, what did the doctor say? usually we have our patients come back in a week for another blood pressure check, and if it is still high the doctor will start them on some medicines. In the mean time cut out salt and caffeine. good luck.

I wouldn't get excited yet. Wait about a week without any drinking and see if it has went down.
