Rubbing alcohol commonly sold as diluted ethyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol contain hydroxyl (-OH) group that effectively denature microbial proteins and denature metabolic pathway enzymes.
The problem is that the alcohol not only kills germs, but it also destroys your healthy cells around the cut / scrape. So, the burning sensation is essentially your nerves telling your brain, "help! Your Cells are Dying here!".
But To clean out the wound and prevent further infection, some of your healthy cells must go. Besides, your body will regenerate them soon, so its not too much to worry about. =)

Alcohol burns b/c it works. It kills the germs. As far as using peroxide it's good for some things but not all. You don't see doctors using peroxide to clean an area before he starts an IV do you. Alcohol works only when it dries. the same goes for hand sanitizer.

Key word here is ALCOHOL. That is why you don't use it on open sores or cuts at all. To clean any kind of a wound or sore use mild soap and water or normal saline.

She's right its just bad for your cut ...don't use it. Use peroxide or soap and water.
