A new ager, he/she is open to new ideas and adaptable. A born again Christian employee would be endlessly trying to convert and justify his/her sad little life to anyone who is within earshot. However, discrimination laws prohibit such decision making, sad but true.

I am a Christian (not the born-again type). While I would like to say that I would hire the most qualified person for the job, I would probably hire the New Ager over the fundamentalist (if that is what you mean by 'born again').
As for the rest of the question, I would say promotions in the work place are certainly determined by social connections and what not.

I would hire the New Ager because I would want someone who is open minded in a management position.
It's a hypothetical question, people!

I'd hire whichever was more qualified, so, I think the new ager would probably be more qualified since he/she went to a reputable university, not some backwoods bible college

If someone refused to hire me because of my religion, they would wind up on the wrong end of a law suit. Federal labor laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of religion. If I was hiring anyone, I would not ask, nor care, about their religion.

If I were hiring in management, I would be aware that labor law prohibits discrimination based upon religion.

I wouldn't hire based on religion.. in the U.S., it's illegal to even ask such a question.
