You are walking through a field, and you find something to eat. It doesn't have bones, and it doesn't have meat. You pick it up and put it into your pocket. You take it home and put it on a shelf, but 3 day's later it walks away. What is it?

If you think it is an egg you would be wrong, because three days away from hatching the developing chick would already have bones. It would also have some meat (muscles) in advanced stages of development. Besides, an egg has to incubate within a very narrow temperature range (a matter of only a few degrees) for 28 days. If you found an egg in a field and took it home and put it on your shelf, it would never hatch.

What, you think they develop bones the instant they peck their way out of the shell?

Yeah, that's true... Our science teacher made us study chicken eggs for a week... Books, notes, the whole deal... We even went to a farm...
