How can we 'stand around' and watch injustices being done?
People continue to turn a blind eye to things.
Child abuse, animal abuse, murder, abortion, euthanasia, welfare fraud, insurance fraud, petty theft, littering, neglect.
If we get 'involved' we might suffer from someone's angry wrath....we may be told to 'mind our own business'. We could get fired. We could have to testify. Maybe even turn in a loved one.
As a group, yes, we can change things...we can stop things...but who is going to start it? What if no one backs you up? Can you stand alone? What if everyone turns on YOU?
2,000 years later...things are not so different.

The Romans were crucifying him. They did whatever they wanted. Remember there were two crooks crucified along Christ. The Romans did things like this all the time, so nobody was shocked. In fact, some cheered.
They were probably insensitive to the fact that He was the Son of God. Most importantly, they couldn't save Him because this was something that had to happen. Christ had to suffer for our sins and then be crucified, to make possible the resurrection and the possibility of forgiveness for our sins after repentance.
I know I wouldn't be able to stand by and watch that happen. Remember that, next time you are feeling the urge to do something wrong - you are standing and watching Him go through pain, instead of helping Him.

You would think someone would have helped but remember the Roman soldiers were the ones witnessing the horror. The Romans were primarily pagan so "our" God was not their God. In addition, they had control of most of Europe and parts of the middle east - especially what today we know as Israel, Lebanon,Syria etc. The Romans had no respect for the Jews, their religion or traditions - truth be told they were fairly arrogant and had no respect for anyone. No one would have stuck their neck out to help Jesus. How any human being could stand around and watch such an atrocity is beyond comprehension - guess those guys might be burning in hell for eternity!

For the same reason which holds true to this day, the general population is powerless against an armed force. The same question could be asked:
why is the number of civilian Iraquis number 13,000 (since the
start of the current war) and the number of US soldiers killed total 3000?
If you check your history books you will find the Roman Army was a force to be reckoned with and was only defeated because of the sheer number of tribes from the East.

In the movie, there were no follower of Jesus in the area he was being beaten. Everybody surrounding him was invariably Roman. To them, he was just another person going against the Empire. To Christ's followers, Jesus was much more - a prophet, the Messiah, and God Incarnate.

group fear, like the tortures that men do to other men.
from hitler takeing those children to be gassed to dropping napam on whole villiages in Viet Nam.
Why do men like to watch the fights? Where two men stand in a ring and beat each others brains out. Rocky is a very popular movie. Wrestleing where they hit each other with chairs and stuff. They get very brutal. Men are violent.
Watch some of the videos coming out of Iraq where they slowly saw a man's head off. They found tortured bodies of men women and children. In Africa they chopped off arms and legs and used children as sex slaves.
They say women are so mean, but all the videos I saw it was men doing the hacking and sawing.

Anyone daring to intervene risked the same treatment-- or worse.[If you have children, you don't generally want to leave them parentless or without sustenance.] Keep in mind , also, that he was under suspicion for having committed a crime, and might have been considered deranged by others. We've had 2000 yrs to study this...it was real time for the onlookers. You see cops beating somebody...you jump in to stop them?
'Stand up and save him'? Heck, he would've been released by Pontius Pilate if the crowd would've said so, but they chose Barabbas.

He had to die for you and me. We would have stood there and watched also. Don't think you are better than anyone else. The first step to salvation is knowing you are a dirty rotten sinner. Just remember that Christ did what he did for you. Jesus paying the price for our sins was not easy. All I can do is thank him for the torture he went through and the price he paid.

Plain and simple it was God's will that Jesus be sacrificed. No one can change GOD'S WILL. It doesnt matter who was around or how many were around. They could have knocked over the cross his disciples could have fought back. But, it was destined and written in the word of God. Jesus came to fulfill his purpose and that was to die and save us! Just like it was Gods will to wake u up this morning, and he did!

EVERYONE wanted him crucified. Not just the Jews. I have no idea where anyone came up with the idea that the Jews were the only group of people who wanted to see Christ on the cross. WE all did.
