I've found that the best way to meet people is through an introduction from someone I already know. If someone introduces you it means the person has at lease one friend, which means they must have something going for them.

The best way to get introduced is to attend EVERY event you are invited to. No matter what it is, how boring it sounds, or how lame the host is just go to everything. That loser from work might have a cool wife who has lots of hot, smart, single friends. You never know. You can always leave early if everyone sucks.

For me clubs were always the worst place to meet people, but that could just be my personality. The main thing is to do what you like doing, because you'll meet people who also like doing that. If you go to church you'll meet people who like going to church, which sounds like a nightmare to me since I'm against religion. Similarly, people at a late night dance club are more likely to be drug users, so you should avoid these places if you don't like drugs.

Try to get a friend to set you up. If you know someone who has a g/f or knows girls, try to get in with them. If you are able to talk to girls who are a friend of a friend, maybe you will have better luck meeting random girls in public.

The mall, at work, in restaurants (such as Applebees), in the library, at an extra ciriculum activity (like art, pottery, athletic games), or on the internet on sites like Eharmony or xanga (so I hear).
