Don't bother. Instead, get OpenOffice ( http://www.openoffice.org ) if you're using Windows, or NeoOffice ( http://www.neooffice.org ) if you have a Mac. These programs do everything MS Office does, but they're free.

First, let's see if your copy of Word is legitimate:

Also, Word has a great feature called "Detect and Repair."
Open a Word document, click Help, choose Detect and Repair.
Have your CD handy.

Do you have a trial version? If you do, you need to buy a key. If you don't want to spend money, get openoffice.
