How much should you pay a sitter who babysits three nights a week for twelve hours overnight for children ages 8,9, and 2. I expect the sitter to tell them to go to bed after 8pm, and wake them up at 6am for school, give them a bowl of ceral and tell them when to leave to catch the bus. Would it be fair to ask them to accept a state payment since I am a single parent? Where can I find a sitter who would be willing to work overnite, and these hours in the champaign, illinois area?

I was a single mother throughout all of my college years and worked nights after classes. This continued for a few years after I graduated and got a full time job. It has been my experience that "overnights" especially when school is involved, is very hard to get and costs more. You want you kids to be treated well and to make it off to school with homework done and belly's full. This is a lot of responsibility and a very "motherlike" job. I found myself working to pay my sitter. Almost none would accept only state payments or the like because they actually pay very little for the care involved and many don't want to put in long hours for the barest minimum fees. Unfortunately, when you do find someone, a lot of times it turns out bad. NOT to say that it will for you or does all the time. My advice to you would be to just be careful (selective) and don't give up. Good people that understand your position are out there and will help you if possible.

Well im a babysitter , and if someone came to me with issues like yours, id only charge 50-60 for 3 kids... 3 nights. I mean, basically the kids are sleeping the whole time ya know. Some people will rip you off so be careful. And yes I think its fair to ask them that, of course. They should be most understandable. Best of luck.
