I recieve TANF benifits for my 2 nieces and nephew that I am caring for as the biological parents have left them here and apparently have better things to do with thier time. And no I am not calling CYFD because I dont want them in the foster care mix.
Anyway I used this little EBT card thingy today and apprently I didnt push the right button. Well this cashier starts rolling her eyes and yapping about those "damn EBT cards".
I remember this whe I had to use food stamps 10 years ago when I was trying to finish school. Maybe then I took the crap...always looked at differently...being treated like crap at Dr appts because the kids were on medicade.
Does society really think that no good lazy bums are the only ones who are on welfare and so they must treat them like dog crap?
And next time a cashier gives me this attitude would it be ok to grab her by her little neck tie and shake her and tell her I have a college degree and that I am not a bum?!! I am employed and pay taxes ect.

OK so alot of people abuse the welfare system. I think thats already established but I want to know who thinks they get to decide to treat everyone like crap. Who has the ability to judge which ones are abusing and which are not, and if you cant you just treat every person as if they do? (abuse the system)

Ms Manners.
Thanks for that enlightening judgement. Maybe thats what she thought as I stood thier in my jeans and blouse. I looked decent but not uppity so give me a break on that one.
But in case you 2 were wondering it might have something to do with the fact I already had 3 kids to begin with. I got my 2 nieces and nephews basically in June.
I dont know but after paying school supplies/clothes, bunk beds to accomodate 6 kids and a strew of other unexpected savings I was essentially broke...because they were dropped off as we were remodeling a new house to move into. Then I hired an attorney to get gaurdianship, which by the way if the court rules in my favor I will no longer get TANF, which I knew from the get go. I also have to get a minivan as 6 kids and 2 adults dont fit real well in a Ford Taurus.
But I am in a pretty big bind finacially. I just needed some temporary help to get over a hump.
Any more questions Ms Non-Manners?

i was rich and i thought that anyone on aid was lazy and trying to get a free ride until .we were so poor that we did not have money for toilet paper NOW I HAVE LOVE AND COMPASSION which i never had before so today i will treat a poor person with complete respect like they are a King or Queen i will help people and realize that in one second any of our lives can change.i would rather be poor and have love in my heart than be rich and be a snob terrific question alot of people should have to go through what we are going through this would be a much more loving and caring world sometimes you have to go through hell to get to heaven.Praise Jesus He will see us through

It's very good of you to take the poor kids in. I have no respect for people that abandon their children. You're a good person! You should try to get as much state/federal help as you can. I have no problem with anyone using food stamps, medical cards. But there are a few that abuse the system. I know of women who were on welfare and their daughters had kids and dropped out of school and went on welfare. I know of a woman who dropped out of school and proceeded to have 5 babies one after the other, each child had a different father! These are the ones who ruin it for the people that actually need the help. Most cashiers are not rude, but if it happens again I would tell them what you said here and that you do have a job and college degree. Maybe then, the next time these people will think before they speak? I'd also straighten out the Dr's hired help AND complain to the Dr!

At the end of the day we are all on welfare, that is, the goods that we take from the planet. Nobody owns anything here, everything is on loan until we die, you certainly cannot take your belongings with you. So we should stop scapegoating others that receive less than us and start scapegoating others that seem to take most of cake, while everyone else has to make to with the crumbs and what is to say that a person who is rich has worked any harder then anyone else, yet they get to cream off everything.

(Plenty of them around!!!!!) and they don't pay much tax either. Think tax evasion, while the rest of the hard working people have to make up for the shortfall!!!

Also I cannot understand WHY people get so jealous, of individuals who are on welfare, as you don't receive much money so why get so p***** , it obvious that if you have a good well paying job then you are far more better off and in a better position then someone who receives paltry welfare payments, you certainly can't move mountains with it lol!!!!!

I am sorry you had to deal with this. The problem with welfare though is that 80% of the people on it are generation welfare families. Meaning the parents where on it and now the kids are on it. A lot of people on welfare do not want to work and make welfare a way of life. So instantly anyone on welfare is put into that category and treated this way. Its a stigma and there is not much that can change peoples outlook on the welfare system until the welfare system is revamped and people who are able to work are forced to work. In your situation welfare is a blessing in some other peoples situation welfare is a way for them to not to stay at home and remain jobless.
Kudos to you for taking in your 2 nieces and nephews they are very lucky to have an aunt like you who cares.

I'm guessing that you live in the US. I'm on welfare in NZ. We've got a much better system than yours but it's still lousy. It isn't welfare recipients who are spongers. It's parasites like property speculators, Bushie's mates in Halliburtons and all the other rich business parasites. Who is ripping off the hardworking taxpayer more; an unemployed person receiving $200 a week in benefits, or somebody who buys a property for $1 million today and sells it for $2 million next week?

Those EBT cards do suck, sometimes the grocery store's credit verification machines wig out on them. Not only is it annoying for the cashier, but for you too. The cashier should have kept her big mouth shut. I don't think she ment to make you feel like crap (but I wasn't there and I don't know the girl). When I was a cashier we were always told not to judge people who have WIC certificates or the EBT cards (I miss paper food stamps too, they were easier) because everyone has hard times in thier lives...when I was little we were on WIC so I remember what it was like for my mom.

Welfare is needed for some people - but a lot of people abuse the system. What a lot of people don't realize is some people don't make a high enough wage to support their families and they think everyone abuses the system.

A similar thing happened to my sister when she was a single mom who couldn't collect child support from the dead-beat dad. she went to the manager to complain and you should too!!! we live in a society that is supposed to be non-discriminating and that goes for a business/customer relationship too!

Don't feel bad...I used to thing that way until my daughter had the need and received food stamps for a yr or so while her husband served in Iraq. That was a first in my family... I finally realized that unforeseen circumstances force people at times to seek welfare assistance Not all welfare recipients are dead-beats... Many of our military families receive food stamps . Dont be ashamed...you are doing the right thing... and who cares what ignorant people think?

In some Countries the government gives checks to everyone regardless of the economic status..... And I believe your tax money is paying for the war in Iraq, and some of it is even going to Israel.....
