Many Christians believe then you are mandated to love god more than your children. According to some Gospels, Jesus made this point very clear. In context, this message was an obvious attempt to build a cult and is among the lamest of Jesus' teachings.

I love God above all else. It is comparable to loving a husband compared to the children. There are different kinds of LOVE involved.

Your question begs the question what is natural. Human nature is fallen and sinful. Because of this a father who loves his children will have to do things that make his children think that he hates them sometimes but then, he's putting what is good for them above what they think about him.

The Bible does say that we should love Him more than our family. It's the sign of a true disciple.
I have 5 kids and I love them with ALL my heart and soul.
But they know how I feel and feel the same way I do.
God's first - family second.
But if you know God, then you know that since I make Him first, my family has the best of me.
It's not bad coming in second to God.
