After washing your childs hair put an ample supply of conditioner in, the nits will come out easier.
Either that or put mayonnaise in their hair, nits dont like oil.

I have a friend that had the worst time getting the lice and their eggs to completely go away. She treated her daughter for more than 2 months before it resolved. Continue using the gel (or similar) and comb, wash all the bedding on a daily basis, close anything that can't be washed in large black trash bags for 30 days. It is best if you can place these bags in the sun. Be really consistent with the treatment and be patient. You might also want to contact your doctor and see if there is a prescription gel or creme that will work better than over the counter products. Good luck!

I know this sound tedious and long but its worth it, I work in a daycare and have had to do this. You literally need to go strand by strand by hand. Have a cup of vinegar beside you and put the eggs in the cup when your take them off the hair. Once you go through and don't see anymore wash the hair with a lice shampoo, vacuum, and wash everything while the shampoo is still on the hair or before you take the towel off. Vacuum your mattresses too. Bag all stuffed animals or wash them right away. Put pillows in the dryer on high for awhile too. I know that is alot of info but if you do it all once or twice you should be ok. One last thing, I'm not sure if you have a son or daughter but keep the hair up and boy or girl use hair spray or other styling products in the hair, just alittle, lice hate that kind of stuff.

The eggs are there because the lice continue to return. They love clean hair. Discontinue association with other infected children. After washing hair use heaps of conditioner and leave it in the hair for one or 2 days. If long hair keep tied back tight. You could also use baby oil. Lice do not like slippery hair, they will not stick around to lay more eggs. Continue using the fine tooth comb till you see no more. Read up on the life cycle of the louse, it's very necessary to know your enemy!!!!

Your child is probably having more contact with whoever still has the lice. Use the lice shampoo as often as the directions and your doctor says its okay until they are gone. Make sure to wash all the bedding and clothes in the soap they sell for that too. Also it may be a good idea to get the spray and spray the bed, couch, and such items in your house. Lice eggs can live in those items as well as staying in the hair. Persistance will get you through. Oh and for the ones who said gross and such, its nothing to be ashamed of for getting lice and trying to get rid of them, the shame is for the ones who don't care and don't do anything about it.

I had lice in 6 years ago, and we tried everything from Mayonaise to Rid, Nix, but none worked. Dont use pesticides, and this product called "Not Nice to Lice" is the only thing that worked. It has natural enzymes to get rid of it. Keep fine combing. Treat everyone in your household with Not Nice to Lice too..and bag up stuffed animals for about 2 months and change everyones sheets EVERY DAY. Vacumming daily is good also.
We got rid of them in about a month.

I have never had the pleasure of lice but I heard from a few of my friends who have tried using flea and tick shampoo for dogs on their kids. Obviously you need to make sure you keep everything completely out of their face and away from eyes and mouth when washing. But my best friend swore that it killed the lice in like 2 days and made all the dead ones and eggs easier to get out. I know the bottle says not for use on humans but none of their kids ever had any side effects from it.

Are you sure that's not dandruff. 2 months is an awful long time to just have nits and not live lice hatch.
Washing the hair in vinegar (white) will help loosen them up.
Also, they make a battery operated comb which beeps until it comes across a nit then stops so you can help pull it off by hand.
I would have a nurse at the local health department check to make sure they are nits though. If they truely are, make sure you are treating your whole house otherwise your kids will just keep getting it.
Bedding, mattresses, toys, stuffed animals, hairbrushes, ponytail holders, dolls, carpets, headbands, hats, coats, scarves, You can't miss anything.

As you do the treatment make sure pillowcases and bedding are all washed as well . Since it's been going on for so long perhaps consult a doctor if the above procedures haven't worked. good luck they can be difficult to get rid of at times I have a child of my own.

The only thing I have heard is from one of my teachers from childhood, and that was to put lots of mayonaise in the child's hair, then put on a shower cap *tightly* before hey go to bed. Make sure the shower cap is succure so there wont be mayo all over the bed. She said it worked for her child.
