depends, if there are no allergies involved, then i think a rabbit or a dog are the best pets. a rabbit is for someone who cant put as much effort in playing with an animal like a dog because u can leave ur rabbit in its cage for some time. (but u do have to spend some time with it, cleaning the cage, and giving the rabbit food and water and some exercise outside the cage) but get a dwarf rabbit for that because the bigger ones are better for having outside in a pen like cage. a dog for a person who wants to play actively with their pet and can handle the responsibility of walking it, playing with it, feeding it, housetraining it, ect. and if those arent right. a cat is a good pet if u want an independent animal that all u really do is feed and water and clean out the litter box. because not all cats really like to play, but they do want attention like petting it and all. if u want a pet that ALL u have to do is feed it get a fish, other than feeding it, u just have to clean the bowl out once a week/month or whatevre is recommended for the kind of fish u have.

If you are home a lot then a dog or a bird, A dog can't be left at home alone or they will rip the place to shreds unless you kennel them and thats not fair. I have a cockatiel and she's lifted the depression of being home all day, she is so cute and funny and totally bonded to me, she also spends as much time as she wants out of her cage because the door is always open. If you are gone a lot I would recommend a cat They sleep 20 hrs a day, can self feed and water and are independant. I've owned horses, cows, pigs, chickens, dogs, cats, goats, and a bird.

i have 5 cats,1 dog,5 rats and 2 gerbils aswell as 4 children.cats, dogs, rats and gerbils are alot of work but if you want something that doen's create alot of work,a fish.get a nice size tank with nice fish(not gold fish).if you get a good filter for the tank cleaning isn't much of a problem.put it this way i'd rather 5 fish tanks them one litter box between 5 cats.not only that fish ahve been known to be a stress releaf.just watching them.not alot of people might say that fish are boring and stupid but you'd be surprised.i'm saving up to get a good tank and a few nice fish,my son wants the fish from the movie Finding Nemo.the doctors office has a fish tank and the kids are gluded to it until the doctor calls them, mybe that's why they like goin to the doctor.........any try fish, you'd be surprised what a fish can do and what you'll learn.

If its for you get a cat, they are low maintence and they bathe themselves. Just make sure its gets its shots and goes to the vet. But if you have kids i would say hamsters they are a great way to teach the child to take care of another and if they die you can replace it and they all look alike! (that is if your child isnt ready for the life death talk) Good luck!
*As to hampsters i recommend starting with ROBO hampsters if you have little ones (ages 0-5) because there teeth are so small they cant puncture human skin!

A cat would be my choice as cats are low-maintenance. Some people prefer dogs, so it's up to you, really.
Here are some pros and cons of both.
CATS
pros...
-nice and cuddly
-don't require much attention
-clean themselves
cons...
-makes an annoying noise during mating season
-requires a litterbox cleaning every 2 days
DOGS (depends on breed and age)
pros...
-great companion
-very active
-protection
cons...
-require a bath every 3 weeks or so
-require more visits to the Vet's office
-have to be taken outside to do number 1 and 2
Good luck on your choice!

If you have children, I recommend a guinea pig. They're cute, inexpensive to purchase and care for and they rarely bite.
