Developing an aversion to something that made you sick is a survival mechanism. If you can't drink vodka after getting very sick from it, this is a sign that you have very good genes and your body is very smart. If you were in the wild, you would be very likely to survive. Most people are stupid by comparison- they deny (or don't have) nature's protective instinct, and consume the same sickening substances again and again. THAT shows an inability to learn and lack of survival instincts.
As for your question, if your survival instinct are as good as they sound, the aversion should last your entire life, and you might even find yourself having the urge to warn your children against drinking vodka.
If you really want to be able to drink vodka again (although it should not be an impairment that you can't), I would suggest giving yourself some good experiences with vodka:
1. The next few times you try to drink vodka, make sure you're following "drinking rules" and trying to avoid getting sick that right. (i.e. liquor before beer; not mixing a variety of alcohol; drinking lots of water; not drinking TOO much.)
2. Use very good vodka, like Three Olives or Grey Goose.
3. Try mixing the vodka with some orange or cranberry juice to make it more palatable. Move up to pure vodka and shots once you can drink screwdrivers without feeling funny.
4. Remember, to make sure that you only drink vodka when you think you'll make it through the night without getting sick. At least for the first few times, until you feel comfortable taking vodka shots again.
I personally have no problem abstaining from drinks I don't like- such as whiskey, pure vodka, beer, martinis, etc. because there are still a large number of drinks I DO like- wine, fruity cocktails, grasshoppers, brandy, cordials, schnapps, etc. Perhaps you could just forget vodka and take the opportunity to explore other delicious alcoholic drinks.
I think it's fortunate that I don't like beer, because while everyone else is getting drunk on the same old thing, I'm discovering and creating all sorts of different drinks. It makes drinking much more fun.

Your body can't handle it. Either that or you just aren't much of a spirits (hard liquor) person. When I was 19, I took down 6 or 7 double shots of Captain Morgan and needless to say, it was a baaaaad night. I don't even remember to this day what happened other than the fact I'd been bounced (I was at a club). I'm 24 now and haven't touched or even gone near it since. Once you've had a bad experience with alcohol, you tend to avoid it... pretty much for the rest of your life. Vodka simply isn't for you.

I answered this question for someone else just a few days ago. You can thank evolution for this wonderful trait. You have what is called "food aversion". It's your body's way ensuring you haven't forgotton how sick the vodka made you. It isn't food that's causing it, but your body doesn't know the difference. When our ancestors where busy swinging from one branch to another, if in there travels they decided to eat nut or berry and it made them horribly sick, they knew enough to avoid it the next time. Haven't you ever eaten something and it made very sick and even though you liked it before, now you can't even stand the smell of it?Same principle here. The body has long memory for this stuff, to get back in the ring, drink sweeter drinks for a while and if you drink vodka make a drink but don't make it as strong. As you get used to it you can make them stronger as time goes by. Condition your senses slowly and it will pass..................

I was drunk with absolut vodka months ago but that was when i was chasing and tried to finish up the bottle ( 1 liter size) with another friend, now i know Vodka is meant for sipping to enjoy the aroma and not fierce drinking like whisky.....so go ahead & sip the vodka with your favourite mixture but never chase after it...stop when you feel enough ( but knowing Vodka's kick come very slow )also may sure your age is old enough to consume alcohol ....enjoy & cheers !

Sounds like you have a psychological block against drinking Vodka. Instead of shots, you could try some of the vodka drinks that mask the taste, like Jello Shots, Screwdrivers, Vodka Tonic, etc until you build up a tolerance again.
You could also try some other type of alcohol, like Rum.

Ehh it's different for everyone. I once got really sick off of minderasers (vodka, kahlua and club soda) and for the longest time I couldn't drink kahlua. Just the smell would make me feel ill! What I eventually did was start mixing drinks that contain kahlua (in your case vodka) but that really masked the taste and odor of it so I wouldn't feel sick. Now I can drink minderasers again. :) Happy Drinking!! :)

Tough question, you probably created a taste aversion to the beverage...so it may take years for that aversion to fade in order for you to enjoy the beverage. The same thing happened to me with peppermint schnapps, for about a year I felt like throwing up every time I brushed my teeth or was offered a mint.

I was 22 and I'm now 40. Rumpleminz was my demon and now I can't even smell it without getting sick. I also can't stand the smell of Calvin Klein Eternity for women because I was wearing it that night.

maybe months maybe never. your body and subconscious is telling you to leave it alone.
got one worse for you. my cousin a local cop in my area. went on a DOA call at a guys house. when he walked in there was vodka bottles that covered everything. he was in his recliner dead. with a big trash can next to his chair that he would Drink and drink and drink till he puked. and just did that over and over and over. needless to say he didn't drink for over a year. now he can only drink beer after viewing that.
so maybe you need to not drink alot and listen to your body.
