The first thing you need to do is clean house super good! You will need to disinfect EVERYTHING. It is a pain, but it will not go away without killing the root of the problem, which usually are the eggs. Eggs can be laid all throughout the house on sheets, beds, pillows, cushions, hats, clothes, combs, brushes, rugs, on and on and on....
NEVER USE THE SAME COMB UNTIL IT HAS BEEN STERILIZED AND DISINFECTED.
After you clean, continue using the products like RIT, you may even have to cut your child's hair.
Use cover the hair with mayonaise & wrap it overnight. Anything left (like the little eggs) pick out. You have to sit and pull them out. Throw out the towel when you're done though!!!
One tip that has saved me from head lice while working with kids all day is 3xs a week get rubbing alcohol and pour on your fingertips, rub all throughout your scalp, especially behind the ears and neck. So once you get it under control try this on everyone in your house to keep the critters from returning.
Also, check at school, daycare, friends, neighbors--find out where your child is getting them from & have them CLEAN!
Hope it works! :)

my sister had this problem when she lived in Fl. Nothing she did seemed to work every not she would have to do there hair. She went to the school and had a fit they shout the school down cleaned it. The looked at every one head before the kids came back in. They did that for two weeks looking before you went in found out who had it all the time and help get it out of there house and thing were fine after that. I know it sounds like a lot but you let her keep going be ready to spend money ever day.

Okay, I don't know if you've done this or not, but using a lice killing shampoo like RID works but only in conjuction with thoroughly washing all the bedclothes, robes, sweaters, coats, hats, scarves, pillows, hair ribbons and bows etc. with an automatic washer and dryer as the lice cannot survive the heat.

After using the products did you comb out all the nits with a nit comb, wash all bedding including pillow in hot water, removed and bagged all stuffed animals, washed all hats, coats, washed brushes and combs, vacuumed mattresses, sofas etc.?? Have you also checked all members of the family including yourself?
If you missed any of the above try to do all of it and you should have success. Nits like clean hair, not dirty. Avoid sending your kids for sleep overs at other peoples homes, and keep hair tied back when playing with friends.

you HAVE to hand pick out each and every nit. those nit combs don't work - just give a very false sense of security. it doesn't matter how much you shampoo. if you leave one teensy nit, in a couple of days you'll have a whole new outbreak.
get rid of stuffed animals and pillows.
if she's getting it from school, keep her out until they get it cleared up there.
another thing you can do is talk to your pharmacist. they know which things actually work.
good luck. lice sucks!
