When the mother is roaming around the house all day, sniffing everywhere, but not looking for a place to go potty, she's panting alot, and she seems real squirmish, the pups are almost here!
Make sure you have a comfy place for her to lay to give birth, and if she allows it, stay with her, and rub her belly a little.
Don't worry about having boiling water with you. It doesnt' do anyting. It just gives you something to concentrate on, other then the birth. Have some cool water handy for her to drink. Not cold, but cool.
And whatever you do, don't handle the puppies very often, until they are roamin around all over the place. She'll keep trying to move them to somewhere you can't get to! I had that prob with my cat. She hid them and we thought she ate them at one time lol. It was a little scary.

Usually about a hour before she will start panting and walking around in cirlcles a lot. When she does that, bring her to an area such as a box with high enough sides so the puppies don't crawl out. Fill the box with newspaper or old towels.

Purchase a rectal or oral thermometer but use it rectally. You can lubricate it with KY jelly and insert it about an inch. Leave it in place for three minutes. Your dog’s temperature should be between 101 and 102.5 Fahrenheit. When the pet’s temperature drops below 100F she should deliver the pups in less than twenty-four hours.

I'm not sure what the gestation period is, but like humans you can never know EXACTLY when they will deliver. I'm sure temperature can tell when they are about to give birth. Take your dogs temperature and when it drops she is probably about to go into labor.
