Your lucky the cat didn't try to eat him. The hamster was just afraid of the cat and just defending himself. If I were you I'd keep them apart.

Hamsters need to learn how to co-exist with something that is different than it.

Hamsters may be small, but they are no peaceful, neither bashful critters.

Furthermore, they are not only aggressive to other animals, but also to their own species and between sexes. They are quite able to fight a cat... and win!

I am afraid you will have to cage him, if you want peace in your home.

Well it probably won;t be good for the cat. Those little hamsters can be tough. Seriously, be responsible and keep them separated.
