Yes, it is that simple! Add the scallions just before you serve the broth.

Broth is very simple to make. I put in bones and some cheap cut of beef cut into cubes with a few onions and carrots and spices into the pressure cookerand put it on the back burner at medium heat until the steam comes out, put the valve on the pressure cooker, turn the heat down and let it cook for about 1/2 hour. Then I turn off the heat and leave the pressure cooker alone for a few hours ... and there is the beef broth.

yes you can make a simple soup with beef broth and onions

i love onion soup

but any soup is only as good as its broth/stock
so when i make onion soup, i make my own beef stock the day before
it's not hard at all

all you need is---

beef bones
1 can beef broth
4 cans of water (told you it was simple)
1 onion, cut in half
celery & carrots
garlic, to taste (i like garlic, so i use 4-6 cloves)

bring your stock to a boil, then
simmer 2-3 hours
stir once in a while, add water if needed

simple broth with a little extra taste

It would be both simple and lovely! I don't agree with those who are calling the dish French Onion Soup - traditionally, the soup is made with "regular" onions, not scallions.
Even more simple would be to heat up a can of broth (whatever flavor), then sprinkle in your sliced scallions. It's going to be very good for you. (What time is dinner?)

Yes, it is French Onion Soup, simple and popular!

<<<<<<<<< French Onion Soup >>>>>>> Serves 4

60g butter
4 onions, thinly sliced
2 teaspoons flour
4 cups or 1 litre or 1 3/4 pt
chicken stock (or beef stock)
1/2 cup or 125 ml or 4 fl oz white wine
8 slices French bread, toasted
60g 2oz grated Gruyere cheese

1) Melt butter in a large saucepan, add onions and cook over a low heat, stirring constantly, for 10-15 minutes or until onions are golden. Stirring, for 5 minutes longer.
2) Increase heat to medium, stir in stock and wine and bring to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
3) Top toasted bread with cheese and cook under a preheated grill for 2-3 minutes or until cheese melts.
4) Place cheese toast in the base of a large soup tureen and pour over soup. Serve immediately with bread sticks.

Japanese miso soup or chinese wonton soup is that simple, but you should use chicken broth not beef broth. For the miso soup you would use a mix, it's not worth trying to make the broth yourself.

You mean miso soup? There are mushroom slivers in that, too. Not sure what else. Maybe vinegar?

Yup, and if you have a crockpot, leave it in there to simmer for several hours. Or just leave it in the pot for several hours. Should taste delicious.
