In my area, it is law that you can not release a puppy until it is atleast 8 weeks old. However, that is just this area. I have recently received a puppy from a breeder in West Virginia that was released to me when she was just 6 weeks old.
I think if the vet said that the puppies can go when they are 6 weeks old, then I would go with that.

If the vet really said that, I'd definitely get a new vet. The puppies should never leave the litter until 8 weeks at the earliest. That extra time is necessary for the puppies to spend with their litter mates - that's the time they learn about bite reflexes - how hard they can bite before there's serious consequences, they learn how to get along with other dogs. You'll have tons of problems with a puppy who's been separated from litter mates before 8 weeks.

I am not an expert on this, but I have heard that it is better for the puppy to stay with the Mom until 8 weeks. I was told that the puppy will have better social skills because the Mom will teach that to the puppy.
Personally, I would wait 8 weeks.

HI
6 weeks use to be the norm but now most say 8 weeks so that the puppy is for sure eating and drinking on its own. Sometimes when they go at 6 weeks the puppy can die at the new house from hypoglacemia from not eating to good on their own. Mother dogs usually wean around 5 weeks and this just gives them more time at home and getting use to eating and drinking on their own. Hope this helps.

I would say 8 weeks at the earliest (I personally prefer 10 weeks). Large breeds can go to new homes earlier than the smaller breeds, but it is better for the puppies to stay with the mother until at least 8 weeks.

I think it really can be 6-8 weeks. Depending on the puppies size and health.

It depends on where you live. In some states it is illegal to transfer ownership of a puppy under 8 weeks old. There are also local ordinances to worry about. Where we live, in PA, state law says 7 weeks, but local ordinances say 8 weeks.

Puppies are usually weaned at about 6 weeks old, 8 weeks is still too young for me. We keep in contact with our breeder, and she never lets puppies go under 12 weeks old. 6 weeks is too young in my oppinion. I recommend 12.
