This is called agoraphobia and is a real condition.
I ones new and help take care of a older lady with this. She would not leave her property and was very content to stay in her house.
I have been accused of this however I do not feel I have this at all. I go out, maybe not ever day or even every week but I do go out.
There has been many people in history with this. The writer and poet Emily Dickinson being one of them.

agoraphobia is the fear of open places or crowds
anthrophobia is the fear of people or society
also - it's a phobia not a disease - they are different, and can be treated.
