I think that kids feel like they are mature when they talk to adults about alcohol. I mean, I've seen one kid talk to an adult (not bragging, but discussing) alcohol and the kid thought it made him look cool because he wasn't keeping secrets from adults like other kids. I suppose that made him feel cool because he felt "mature" in sharing adult experience and expertise on the subject of alcohol. Definetly doesn't look cool though.

Don't know. My parents never discussed alcohol with me until I was already drinking it.

Leave it to my Uncle for giving me beers and wine coolers when I was 12.

People like to discuss topics of common interest with others. I would think that kids feel "grown up" because they have an interest in common with older people.

When I was younger and discussed alcohol with my dad, I felt cool. He proved me wrong when he told me some things that I did not know.

Because they are kids and they feel grown up talking about such a grown up topic.

makes them feel very grown up and important. they probably feel more on an adult level when they do that.
