Recently i came across one Canon digital camera with extension SLR/ what is the meaning of SLR and what is its abbreviation

Single lens reflex - it means you look through the lens via a mirror.

darn the beat me to it. SLR is "single lense reflex" which means the viewfinder looks through the lense through mirrors.

SLRs usually have more/better options in terms of different lenses... but that will depend on the camera.
