are you working..do you keep your money? what would he do if you decided to try a bar you've never been to? what happens when he goes all day without hearing from you? can you make plans without running them by him first? these are normal things that you have every right to do..if he's controlling-you'd feel guilty with all the above

My first husband was a very controlling man. He controlled my every move and was verbally abusive. He bought the groceries, handled all the bills, did not allow me to see his pay stubs or to have a checking account. When we were out in public or meeting with his friends I had to be careful how I joined in on the conversation, because, he would put me down and belittle me in front of them and I would catch he_ _ when I got home for embarrassing him. I was not allowed any friends of my own. I would make friends, but they were not allowed to visit us at home and if we were invited over to their house we would not go. There for I didn't keep friends for any length of time. This is only a short version. I hope it has been of some help. If you feel you are in a controlling relationship, you are better off to break it off now while you can. The longer you put it off the harder it will be. Because it starts off gradual, and gets worse as time goes by. The verbal abuse will turn into physical abuse. I think even if you have to question whether you are in a controlling relationship, there has to be something wrong for you to question it. So my advice again is, get out while you can.

I disagree. A controlling relationship not always interferes the way they say. They are like in a denial, they ignore you, to the point to drive you crazy, that's when they have you in their hands. But remember: it is up to you to let them go and not start a relationship like this. Sometimes they can be like that too, as they just said in here, but some times, they sort of torture you mentally and this is like hell. Get out of it before it is too late, if you can. Good luck.

Even if it's nothing as obvious as telling you where you are allowed to go and with whom, there are signs. He will criticize your friends and family (you're too good to hang out with her), work away in subtle ways on your self-esteem (you look kind of fat in that), and make sure you don't have any fun doing the things you do together that he doesn't like (by acting so bored or anti-social on your outings that you would rather not go than deal with him). He will try to make you feel guilty about innocent things, and he will try to keep tabs on you everywhere you go without him (like calling you several times a day just to make sure you are where you said you'd be). Chances are, if you suspect he is trying to control you, he is.

Controlling relationships is when you are limited to where you can go and what you can do. Always being questioned about where you've been. When you both go out and you want to stay langer and a friend wants to take you backl home it is not allowed.
The list goes on and on. It is not healthy to have a relations like that.

When he starts to tell you what to do all the time without asking you. Demanding attention, telling you what you can and cant wear, deciding when you can and cant go out without reason, watching your every move, asking you who you are talking to on the phone every time it rings, intimidating you with his strength, making decisions for you, telling you what you can buy and what you cant, telling you who you can talk to and who u can see and who you cant.

There are many signs that scream "controlling." If you feel like he's controlling you then he probably is..dont second question it, talk to him about it and if that doesnt work, leave.

if the guy is always telling you what to do
and tells you that he must always always know where you are at
disrespects you
does something bad to you then try to make it up by buying you something or saying "ill never do it again"
is control of your life
and blah blah blah
you just should know if you are
if that dude changes from the sweet loving guy to a total different person, like if you abuse you verbally or physically

if they call and ask "what are you doing?" instead of how are you doing?,
they try to control what you do, who you talk to, how you dress
they only want you talking to them and be with them
all major signs of a controlling person
be careful

In general they will try to control everything you do. What you say, where you go, what you do and such.
