I cannot hold any type of curl, whether it be with a hot iron or crimping scrunching or braiding, any suggestions to prep my hair so it will hold the style?

Well, I have naturally curly hair (no, we ar NOT lucky, we have waayyy more problems with our hair!). If you really want it to curl, I would stand in a hot and steamy bathroom for about 10 min, it always brings out the curl in everyone. Then, with your hair clean and wet, put some curling cream in your hair, Catwalk has some great curl products for $10-$20 and you can buy them at Ulta. Then scrunch, scrunch, scrunch like crazy! But most importantly, let your hair AIR DRY!!! A not to curly girls everywhere: blowdrying just makes your hair frizzy and gross. Airdrying is the best way, not even using a diffuser will work well! While it is drying, kep scrunching periodically. Also, a good product that will make it silky is CHI Silk Infusion Serum. It's 12 bucks for a little bottle. If nothing else works, then just go to a nice salon like Trade Secret and get a perm!!

1. Let the curling iron heat up for several minutes. (Do this in advance if you know you won't have time to wait.) Make sure that your hair is brushed with a comb, if not, you hair will look like it is tangled in the curl. 2. Open the curling iron by holding your four fingers around the handle while pushing your thumb down on the moving part of handle. 3. Stop at the root. Stop at the root. Clip the curling iron onto a half an inch strand of hair at the top part of your hair, the part closest to the root, by lifting your thumb. Then slide it down to the tip of your hair. Be sure to stop before it completely slides off. Pull iron down to the tip of your hair.]]Start curling your hair in the direction you want it to curl in, for example curve it under if you want an inward curl. 4. Curl your hair upward toward the root. Curl your hair upward toward the root. Continue to curl your hair until you reach the top part of your hair and hold it there for 10 seconds. 5. Slowly and gently start to uncurl your hair until you reach a point where you can press your thumb down again without your hair holding your curling iron shut. (The slower you let it come down, the longer the curls will hold.) 6. Open and close the curling iron until you ease it out of your hair. 7. Repeat the steps on all of your hair that you want curled. 8. Use fingers to tousle hair. Also use hairspray and a comb to slightly tease hair to create volume.

what might help is if you, hair spray you hair before and just after curling it each small bunch at a time, that is what the do in a salon to keep an up do in place. but you should use aerosol super hold hairspray. this might help solve your dilemma

Use Setting Lotion, which is sold on beauty supply stores. That is a liquid use on hair salons to curls hair. Apply it on your hair and the put on hair rollers. After is dry you will have curls that last long.

It sounds like your hair is too heavy and you may have too much.
It's really hard to get very straight hair to curl and stay.
I can get it to curl but can't promise for how long.
Unless I spay it for a few times.
Don't worry at least you have hair.
Plus more people want straight hair so you may need a new hairstyle

wash it and while u r in the shower comb the conditioner through.
2. blow dry it while brushin it and curlin it with a paddle brush.
3. turn the blow dryer on cool and blow dry the roots only and then with a little bit of leave in conditioner loosley curl your hair with the paddle brush.
