My 5 month old puppy will go into his crate while we are at home, shut the door and cry. When I get up to let him out, he comes barging out like its a game. Why is he doing this?

He's not locking himself in. He's able to open the door when he gets inside. He closes the door on himself and when I get up to open it, he gets out by himself as soon as I've stood up. Lol.

Hehe. As a playmate, he has a kitty and my boyfriend. They wear him out. :)

It sounds like he's trying to get your attention. He may be bored, and just wants to play.

Because it is a game. Maybe close the crate unless its time to go in there. Or, on the other hand make it so he can't close it on himself. Maybe he is accidently getting locked in there. But if you keep letting him out when he starts crying then he will just start thinking that it's okay to cry in there and will do it when you put him in there. It's gonna be a long night if he starts thinking that everything he crys you will let him out.

Aww, he just wants your attention. Maybe he needs a playmate, another dog, if you're not giving him enough attention already.

He wants your attention. 5 month olds (I have a 5 month old Bichonpoo) want to be the center of attention and will do almost anything to get that attention.

it is a game to him. He's trying to see if you are paying attention and how far he can go with you. Like a 2 year old.
