They want him to be respectful to them and you. They also want him to be able to care for you financially. Please don't bring home a drug addict, or child molester.

My parents and I both wanted and still want a mature provider for me (opposite sex from me of course) who is Godly and whose moral character is fit to be a good in-law instead of an out-law. Selfless charity is the best attribute anyone can have.

Hopefully I know they care about me as I do them. I would like to think they are honest, loyal, loving, and take out time to appreciate family. We are blood, so I would hope blood loves eachother.
