How do they dispose of the person if the family can give no money and there is no life insurance plan? Do they burn them and put them somewhere or what? My co-worker is actually asking me this question b/c her uncle is dying and her family doesn't have any money. Just wondering.............

Most families usually have to make dramatic changes in their life to cope with the financial loss, especially a husband and wife who have kids.

They may have to sell their home and live somewhere cheaper. They may have to change their way of living to a lower quality of life. If the kids have an education account, they may have to liquidate that too.

That's why it's important to get life insurance, whether you are married or not.

Since this is the uncle, I don't know what financial impact will the uncle have on the family. So, everyone will have to chip in to pay for the funeral expenses, which is usually around $10,000.

My 21 yr old son just died by suicide last yr with no insurance. He actually had wanted to be cremated anyway.
I didn't have money either, so I got donations from places like St.vincent de paul and such. But then the remainder my father paid for. That was just for the cremation and moving him from the hospital.
I stll wanted to bury his remains. So I needed to buy a plot. The cemetaries ask for some money down, (which I had) then I made payments. That cost was nearly $3000. Once they had all there money then they would bury his remains.

However, if your friends uncle is getting money from the state, if they can prove they can't pay for it, the state will do it. Now this is all here in Washington state.
