As other people have said, the most likely cause is a viral infection; cold viruses can cause symptoms of streaming eyes, running/blocked nose, sinus pain, sore throat, cough, tight chest, plus headache and general aches and pains. One person said it sounds like a bacterial infection, I don't think you have given enough specific information for us to differentiate. If the symptoms persist or worsen, particularly if they are located more specifically to the ear, then you should see a doctor rule out a bacterial ear infection. In the meantime, assuming that you are in the UK, take paracetamol (acetominophen in USA) up to 1000mg four times a day, plus ibuprofen 200-400mg three times a day (unless you have any reasons why these are not safe, for example some asthmatics cannot take ibuprofen, some people find it causes irritation of the stomach). In the UK, you could buy either of these in combination with codeine from a pharmacy, but be careful if driving etc. as codeine can cause drowsiness. The only other things you can do are soothing/comforting things such as hot drinks, hot water bottle, etc. Hope you feel better soon!

Its probably a virus and there ain't much you can do about a virus.
The doctor will probably just recommend paracetamol as some light pain releif and to reduce the shivers...
They usually can't prescribe anything for a virus - the most common thing a doctor will prescribe will be your OWN immune system!
Better yet, go to the doctor and get their opinion instead.

What you described is exactly how I feel when I have strept throat. Do you have white patches on your tonsils or on the back of your throat? Get a flashlight and a tongue depressor (or the handle of your toothbrush will work) and look. If you do, it's strept and you need to get an antibiotic for it to go away. It won't go away on it's own. And it's highly contagious.

At least start a gargle with some salt water solution.. then get to a doc and get some antibiotic for the problem before you get severe otitis media.

There is no cure for the common cold.
It seems, however that you have a bacterial infection and shoule go to a doctor.
In the meantime just rest and take paracetamol.
