IRS is only one who can get you a copy of a previously filed 1040. Get and fill out a Form 4506. cost is $39/year and it will take up to 60 days.

But, depending on what you need it for you may be able to get away with a transcript instead of a copy. You can get a transcript by calling (800)–829–1040 or filing out a Form 4506T. If it's for a home loan your bank may accept that transcript.

Get your forms from www.irs.gov.

You can't download your return online - you can download a form to request a transcript at irs.gov. A transcript shows the numbers from your return, it's just a different format from a copy but has the info. An actual copy costs $39, a transcript is free, and is probably all you need.

You can download a copy from the IRS on line. or go to your local IRS office, Tax Payer Service.... Moreover, you will need the tax tables for that yr...so grab a pamphlet while you're there
