My daughter is going to be one on the 11th and she is not walking yet. She is still crawling. I have fed her the gerber graduate meals, veggies, fruits, and meat sticks and she did fine. Is she expected to feed herself or do they feed her? Thanks.

You should get in contact with the daycare center that she will be attending. If the center is licenced they are required to follow state regulated guidelines for nutrition. If your little one is able to feed herself then they will allow her to be independent. If she is in need of help - they will!!! Let them know what she can do on her own...

This is not the place for your question, not to be rude. I have worked for several preschools as well as elementary schools. The menu is going to vary from place to place. You need to find out what they are serving and express your concerns. Some places require you to provide all meals (in my opinion its the best way to go, you know what your child is eating as well as who prepared it and how it was prepared). Some people will say but kids share food, yes they do, but most people in a daycare setting know how dangerous that can be due to allergies and germs. Just because they have a menu and are on a government plan does not mean they cannot change that menu, there is always room for leeway. Also know just because they are required to feed your child certain things in order to get government funding, they might not be as nutritious as you would think. A lot of people are not aware that condiments like ketchup count as a vegetable.
With all that said relax, if you chose the daycare you must be confident in the person running it or you wouldn't have picked it. A good daycare provider will listen to your concerns and make sure your questions are answered and any problems resolved.

Have a GREAT day!

Im not sure where you are from or what the regulations are in your state, But in the county I live in NY the daycares are provided the food by the school systems. And follow the same menu as the school district the day care is in. If you are uncomfortable with the food that is provide, supply your own. And most infant room teachers will provide the proper level of care needed. If your daughter is not feeding herself, I would hope they would feed her as needed. But by this age your daughter should really have achieved this milestone by now or at least close to accomplishing it. To help her achieve this milestone give her a few cheerios and some dixie cups and show her how to pick them up and put them in the cup and dump them out again. when she dumps them out pick one up and eat it. eventually she will start to follow your lead and eat one herself!

Yes, mostly all day cares will recuire that she at least has some self control when eating. All daycares vary from the type of food fed and the times done so.
My daughter has attended both a larger owend preschool and now is in a private home day care, from experience I love her day care now, all her food and snacks are home made and they even get the children to participate with preparing the snacks from time to time, regardless you should have a walk through of your daycare of choice and when doing so, be very well observent of the kitcken part, ask for a weekly menu...

It all depends on the daycare that your daughter is in all daycares work diffrently. My daycare I have the children bring there own lunches. If I were to feed soups or any liquids then of cource I would feed her but if it was like mac and cheese or cheese or chereoos then I would just put it on the high chair and let her pick it up with her fingers at one they should be doing this on their own.

NO NO NO she should be feeding herself by now. Tell the daycare what she is use to. Dont let the daycare have any chance to let this child do without...even if you have to take extra measures to take her snacks. I know you have to pay big bucks there but have an understanding what she is use to eating. If they dont comply jerk her outta that place. You know what she is use to eating by herself and hope she dont place a peanut butter jelly sandwich in front of her. I sincerely hope they feed her things that she can handle on her own and hope they keep her dry as in diapers, etc. If you see anything out of the ord. get her outta of there. A lot of these daycares are out for the almight buck and to hell with those babies. Just be cautious with your child. PLEASE!

OK i do home daycare and i have been a daycare provider and preschool teacher for 15 years and there are several points to be made here first most centers home and center are on a food program in California i am on one that follows the FDA guidelines that being said yes there is room for change if i need it or the center does now as for bringing your own snacks you need to ask the center or daycare provider first how that works my food program does not allow for certain snacks to be given some people feel a lot of things are nutritious when they really are not for example nutragrain bars or cereal bars they will not allow me to serve these to kids because of the high sugar content also if i give something to one child i must have enough to offer all the children or i am denying them food and can be held accountable for this so please ask first next when it comes to self feeding at one i do have them do this them selves i do all ways watch them to make sure they are getting enough food and its not just all over the floor but i under no circumstances can force a child to eat something so if you child will not eat veggies lets say i can not or any provider force feed them i can ask them to try help them put it on there spoon and say take a bite but that's it. now alot of centers and homedaycares will try like i do to help them eat or spoon feed but you must remember your child is not there only one and if there are younger child she will be monitored while eating but the ones who need the help will get it before she will not to say they will not care its just that if she seems like she is doing OK they will let her try till they can get to her and also the law is the law if there program says no out side food you are risking your providers funding if you pressure her to do this i try to work with my parents but i can not risk my business for one family this does not mean i don't understand this is their child and they can and do what they like but once you are bring your child to a daycare center home or center you must also understand they must follow the law and like you job where if some one would say hey steal some supplies you would say no way i can lose my job you must remember childcare providers are also doing their job so ask all the questions you can think of read all your paper work and contracts so when they tell you no sorry to something you don't seem surprised or get to upset i have a 10 page contract in size 16 font and asks for parents to sign after each rule and policy i have the rules posted on my front door that's are from my food program and licensing and they still ask and then get angry or act surprised when i have to say no and then feel a little silly when i say you signed right here that you understood the rule and agreed and never asked me about it till 6 months later so ask questions read everything like i said .

If she is 1 than they probably let her feed herself. In church I do the day care and we let the kids feed themselves at that age.

ou should be able to get that from the licensing board or even the daycare. they are usually given something like that to reference to when preparing meals.
