If you call a local vet, they may be able to recommend a place that will pet-sit for you.
Birds can be kind of self-sufficient for a couple of days. As long as they have plenty of water and seed, they could be fine on their own. If it is longer than a couple, definitely get a neighborhood kid or the local vet to take care of it for you.

Some pet stores will board a bird for you. You can also call your vet and ask if they can board it or recommend somebody. They always know pet-sitters. If you don't have a vet, call one and ask. Pet-sitters may also be in your phone book.
I don't know whether you are hand-feeding your bird, but if you are I guess it will be weaned by February. If you are not hand-feeding, the care is easy enough. If you are, you'll need somebody to keep this up.

You could take the bird to a vets or a pet store. If you had a trustworthy friend, why not leave the bird there? Now you see why having a pet, any pet, can tie you down.

Some vets will kennel birds or know of pet sitters. Call around. If nothing works, take it with you in a traveling cage. It may be a blast for the bird. Have a smooth new year.

I have an african grey and a cockatiel, and if i'm not gonna be gone any longer than a couple of days, I leave them plenty of water and food, and they are fine, because they would rather be home, where they are use to. But yea, if it is gonna be alot longer than that, I would just have someone you trust to come in and check on them for you.....Best of luck..Nicky

If you don't want to leave it with a friend, take it with you.
If you dont' want to take it with you, leave it with a friend.
The best thing for you to do is leave it with someone that doesn't have a cat or animal agressive dog. Or someone with no pets, but knows how to take care of a bird. You don't really have much of any other choice. Take it, or leave it with someone.
If you don't want to leave it with a friend, ask a family member to watch it while you're gone.
Sorry, that's just how it goes. Good luck to you!!

I went on vacation once when one of my African Greys was barely 8 weeks old. I left her with an avian veterinarian, who took her home with her for the weekend. You have plenty of time to call around and see if there's a vet who will do this for you for a minimal cost.

you may not believe this, but l went to Maryland over the holidays[had a good time] and my bird went with me. l just don't trust any one to look after my bird. because he is a part of my sunshine,l even take my dogs.my family do not mind because most of them are pet owners. but call your vet and ask them. l have a pet stop owner that is a friend and she does that if l ask. my neighbor offered but they went with me.

How long a vacation? A week...leave enough food/water in the cage and have a neighbor come in the house to double check on it. If more than a week... fried cocktail could be an option....

Friend of the family,
Family member,
neighbor,
Anyone you trust.
Tell them how to take care of them and you'll be off for Christmas!
OR take it to a daycare center.
