I don't really understand why it matters. There are many countries around the world that speak more than one languages. For example, where I come from there are twenty-three different language spoken even though the official language is Spanish. So yes, I think English should be the official language but they shouldn't keep anyone from speaking whatever they want.

Yes, I think English should be the official language of America because our ancestors immigrated from England, where the official language is English. We should stick with the countries original heritage.

The operative word is "primary" for those of you who really do not understand "English" A society must have some commonality in order to advance itself in all aspects.. So no more of this english as a second language crap!

Absolutely. Im in the Hotel business and it seems as if some immigrants even refuse to learn English. This is an outrage. We let everyone in this country and give them rights and they refuse to learn English. If we dont act fast and make English the primary language, we all will be speaking Spanish in 10 years.
It just makes coexistance much easier. If I were moving to Puerto Rico, (or jumping thier fence) the first thing I would do would be to learn Spanish.

It is already, isn't it? What are the other legal languages? Are your road signs in languages other than English? I never hear Bush speaking anything but English (it's somewhat mangled, but I suppose the core of it is English).

I like your second question better than the first. And yes, I believe that children should walk into our schools speaking English. But I also think a second language should be encouraged at birth.

Primary, yes. But let's face it, with the world we're living in, it wouldn't hurt to learn another language. By choice, of course.

I think the official language should be jive.
Seriously, the official language...if there's to be one at all, would have to be some aboriginal language of the first peoples. Cree, Sioux...something like that. The english didn't show up until very late in the game.
