As man is, God once was. As God is, man may become.
-Joseph Smith
Prophet
The fact of the matter is that the Holy Bible, in the book of Genesis, states that God created man in his own image. Genesis is also part of the Torah, the holy scripture of Judaism. God does not have a body because he needs all these organs to function and ears to hear and all that. He has them because He was once a being similar to man and is now a glorified exalted being. God doesn't have a body so that he can be like mankind, we have bodies so that we may possibly be like Him someday.

God never takes the human form.
The Prophets of God, Who are the Manifestations of the Holy Spirit created by the One True God, appeared in the human temple to teach mankind and show the most perfect examples for their application.
The hearsay cannot open our mind; we better read the Holy Books and do our own learning.

Since God is spirit and designed us in his own image as he was spirit, we assume that in his "own image" refers to other qualities about us such us creativity, imagination, and humor. The passage also says "male and female he created them" implying that neither the male nor the female alone is a representation of God's image, but the two together. This also leads to the idea that God is not describing the physical aspect of man when he says we are made in his image.

I feel, by the tone of your question, that your not looking for an answer; you're just looking to poke fun of us "ignorant Christians". I'll take the high road, God became human to save man from his servitude to sin. Man, Adam, sold human kind into slavery; therefore, a man, Jesus, had to buy us out of this slavery. It had to be a man. This may not be the answer to your question, but the guy who answered previously told you that an anthropomorphism is giving God human characteristics so you'll understand his atributes better. If you want to know more about Jesus becoming man goggle "Hyperstatic Union" or "Kenosis".

You don't give a child a book on particle physics and expect them to understand it any more than you'd give a human the complete and mindblowingly complex presence of a higher deity.
You need to give someone something they can relate to before they can finally start understanding it. A human can relate to another humanoid being easier than a technicolor rainbow.

God does not need to have the form of a human being. He
is more ethreal than mortal. He is every where and every thing.
He is the air, the water and he is each of us as well. We have only to believe

God is a spirit, so by your words, he doesn't need a body, and is therefor perfect. I've never insisted that He did design us in his own image, but I can believe that he did.

God is spirit. Jesus was human and spirit. God does not have to be human. Jesus did to take on the sins of Adam and die for sin. Jesus also had to be human to give us an example that we can be like Him when it comes to temptation.

Too many people bog themselves down about silly things with God. My God is my friend whom I can talk to 24/7. He's never let me down even though I let him down a lot of the time. Just love him for what he is.
